Szue Hann Tan
Architect, Sustainability consultant
Ar. Tan Szue Hann, M. Arch, is Head of Sustainability at global infrastructure and building consultancy Surbana Jurong. He is also Singapore’s 2015-16 Young Green Architect of the Year, awarded by BCA and SGBC.
Szue Hann graduated with a Master of Architecture from the National University of Singapore (NUS), completing his Thesis at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2007, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (First Class Honours) in 2006. On graduation, he was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Medal, Board of Architects Prize, ICI Gold Medal. He is also a Registered Architect with the Board of Architects, Singapore, and a Board Member of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC). He is also a Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), as Chairman of Sustainability. Szue Hann is also an invited member of the Green Mark Advisory Committee, as well as the BuildSG Tripartite Committee, BCA, and a member of the BCA Young Leaders Programme.
Szue Hann has also been a speaker and moderator at several local and international conferences, including the International Green Building Conference (Singapore, 2013, 2015 and 2017), the International Housing Forum (Singapore, 2017) and the Nordic Climate Change Conference (Denmark, 2018). In 2016, he was appointed a World Cities Summit Young Leader (under the age of 45) by the Ministry of National Development, and elected as the Chairman of the ARCASIA Committee for Young Architects. In 2017, he was selected as a member of Generation T, a committee of society influencers below the age of 40, by Singapore Tatler.
Professionally, Szue Hann has been involved in several award-winning building projects, such as the Parkroyal on Pickering hotel, the SPACE Asia Hub and the Ogilvy & Mather office, with WOHA. His current work with Surbana Jurong is in sustainable and smart urban environments in Singapore and internationally, having completed recently-launched BCA SkyLab, a state-of-the-art rotatable test bed for future smart and sustainable building technologies, for which he and his team won a Minister’s Award on National Day, 2017. He is also working on a smart, cycling-friendly housing estate in Singapore, and greening new and mature townships. Recently, he led a smart city master plan in Bangkok, Thailand.
