Health Improvement Specialist (Mental Health), Health Improvement Team, Public Health Directorate, Scottish Borders Council / NHS Borders
Drawn to all types of creativity (especially books about creativity), Steph MacKenzie found herself living seven miles north of the border five years ago. Having dabbled with printmaking, ceramics and various aspects of textiles, she left her local government policy career behind and started working in the arts and mental health field. Her focus was primarily on community and socially engaged art, exploring the capacity for art to help with recovery from mental ill health and support both self expression and human connection.
She has continued with this theme as Health Improvement Specialist for Mental Health, working with CABN to develop the Arts and Wellbeing Network and stimulate the arts and health environment in the Scottish Borders. She continues to dabble with her own creative indecision and is also engaged with the role of the arts in the regeneration in her own community as the Chair of newly established arts organisation OutPost Arts.
