In 1999, Micheline Clouard founded with Julie St-Arnault VLAN paysages, an award-winning landscape architecture firm specializing in transdisciplinary urban projects that include urban design, landscape analysis, master planning, parks and installations. She is also teaching at the school of Landscape Architecture of University of Montreal since 2002, and is an active speaker, invited critic and teacher in several other schools including McGill University, Dalhousie University in Halifax, and École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Lyon, in France. Before founding her firm, Micheline Clouard worked for several landscape architecture, urban design and architecture firms in Montreal, Vancouver and Dresden, in Germany, where she contributed to many park designs and urban developments.

Micheline Clouard’s practice explores ways of enlarging the traditional realm of landscape architecture, blurring distinction between art and design. She approaches landscape with sensitivity to place and people, as well as natural and anthropological mechanisms. Sustainable design and strong conceptual themes imbue her work, which aims at revealing a sense of place and a strong identity. With VLAN, she constantly researches and uses new and innovative techniques and materials to create bold and stimulating environments. With her team Micheline Clouard recently completed the Montreal Fine Arts Museum and public domain streetscape and sculpture garden. She is currently working on the phase 3 of St-Viateur District revitalization project in Montreal.
