Mel Hansen

Producer and Host in Winnipeg Canada

Mel Hansen is a 28-year-old recent grad from the Creative Communications Journalism program at Red River College - In her first six months out of school has dove into her career, chasing dreams she'd had for years but finally had the skills to pursue. After 11 years working in the restaurant industry, Hansen plunged into an education in storytelling. This past summer with two colleagues from school Hansen hosted and produced a cooking camping show called EnRoute to Eat with a grant from Bell MTS Stories from Home- The show not only was a pipe dream that has slowly - but surely come to life - but a test in skill, patience and the truest form of learning about communication and perseverance as a woman working in television. Since wrapping the show Hansen has started working for CTV as the morning show Ticker Producer.

Mel Hansen is the host and producer of "EnRoute to Eat", a cooking and camping show that took her and her two colleagues all around the Canadian province of Manitoba to talk food with those who make it happen. In her 20x20 talk, she recounted the story of how she came up with the concept behind the show after realizing that there was a lack of female food presenters on television, and what she came to learn about perseverance through producing the show in the summer of 2018. Mel's talk was recorded live at PechaKucha Night Winnipeg Vol. 36, on November 22 2018, at the Park Theatre.
