Kelly Fraser

Musician in Winnipeg Canada

Originally from Sanikiluaq, Nunavut, Kelly Fraser has performed countless concerts across Canada, especially in the Arctic (Nunavut/Nunavik), where she is a well-known performing artist/songwriter. Kelly is a Juno-nomnee of 2018 for Indigenous Album of the Year, Indigenous Music Awards nominee of 2018 for Best Pop Album and just wont the Inuk recipient 2019 Indspire Award for her work teaching traditional Inuktitut songwriting workshops and advocacy for Inuit through music.

Kelly Fraser sings pop covers in Inuktitut, sings original edm and pop music and also uses her traditional Inuit drum and throat singing before she starts her usual dancing and singing to pay homage on her Inuit culture.

Like many Inuit, Kelly seeks to spread her messages of joy, healing, and cultural pride through a blend of traditional Inuit music and modern production.Kelly teaches Inuktitut language lessons, does cultural and motivational speaking, teaches songwriting, and helps to organize Nunavut Hitmakerz, a project which aims to give underprivileged Nunavummiut youth opportunities to learn creative expression and technical skills.

Kelly Fraser is a Juno-nominated and Inspyre Award-winning Inuk musician who has kept true to her roots and thrived while doing so. In her 20x20 talk, Kelly shares her personal story of trials and triumphs, starting from where she was born in Nunavut to winning awards and making her way in front of the UN. Here, she truly exemplifies, both literally and figuratively, what it means to march to the beat of your own drum.

Kelly's talk was recorded live at PechaKucha Night Winnipeg Vol. 38, on June 6 2019, at the Park Theatre.
