Katharine Whitcomb

Professor of Creative Writing, Central Washington University in Ellensburg United States

Katharine Whitcomb is a third generation Whitcomb living in eastern Washington (grandfather was an entomologist in Yakima, father was a language teacher in Cheney). She is a poet, professor, editor, and collaborative artist who has lived in Ellensburg since 2004. She is the author, with the artist Brian Goeltzenleuchter, of The Art Courage Program, a parody self-help book and art piece, published by Jaded Ibis Press in 2014, as well as two full-length poetry collections and two poetry chapbooks. She has given national presentations about writing at the intersection of language, art, and music. She’s the co-editor of collaborative projects in the arts, namely A Sense of Place: The Washington State Geospatial Poetry Anthology, Cascadia Chronicle: A Geospatial Journal of Place, Environment and Imagination, and Smelling the City, a collaborative exhibit in the Summer Salon Series at the San Diego Museum of Art.
