Lao People's Democratic Republic
I moved to Laos in 2010 planning to only stay for a year. Almost instantly, this country won my heart and has become truly home for me. Of course, there have been many bumps in the road, language mistakes, laughable moments and cultural realizations along the way. But through it all, I have been so blessed to form deep relationships with Lao friends, becoming a sister, aunt and daughter. In fact, most people jokingly refer to me as "ກຊອດ" half Lao. Though I came to teach, I feel I have been the learner, gleaning invaluable lessons by living life with Lao people.
