President, The Last Kilometer

Jaron studied design at CCS. At the time, he thought that’s all he would need to get ideas out of his head and into the world. He found out later that he would have to learn a lot of other things as well, like spreadsheets, GANTT charts, and conjoint analysis. Which is all worth it when the result is providing power and clean water to people without access to either.

Jaron Rothkop, President of the Last Kilometer, joins us to discuss the ongoing efforts to provide Flint with water years after the devastating misuse of public facilities (and government funding ceased). During his presentation he touched on the effects of donated water bottle waste and how that was not a viable, long-term solution for the people of Flint.
He discussed how his Water Box project in conjunction with multiple concerned partners has brought about real lasting change, minimizing single-use plastic waste. As an open source idea, the Water Box project has peaked interest not only in the US, but all around the world.
