Ian Sercombe

Architect in Forster Australia

Ian studied architecture at the University of Technology Sydney. After working for a couple of architectural practices in Sydney he and his partner Kate spent 4 years working and travelling in North, Central and South America then Europe. Upon returning to Australia Ian established his own practice in 2003, based in the Great Lakes, working primarily on houses but also undertaking various small commercial projects.
Ian’s work is heavily influenced by a desire to integrate with the natural world. This is evident in the way homes open up to their site and through the materials selected. While connecting with site is important, Ian is equally passionate about aiming for qualities of beauty, serenity and joy in spaces. Qualities that make a space feel great and provide inspiration and healthy environments for the occupants.
His work is influenced by a pursuit for simplicity, serenity, beauty and joy. This pursuit starts with the planning and continues throughout the design process and to the selection of materials ultimately used to build from. I’m concerned with homes feeling good, not just looking good.
