Grace Smith

Screen-print Technical Demonstrator, Heriot-Watt University, School of Textiles & Design, Galashiels in Galashiels United Kingdom

Grace graduated with a BA (Hons) in Design for Textiles from the School of Textiles & Design, Heriot-Watt University in 2007, exhibiting at Texprint and completing a work placement in India the same year. She has worked in the School as a technical demonstrator for printed textiles since February 2013. She combines her work as a technician with part-time study for a Masters by Research in the School.

Grace has a keen interest in encouraging young people to study textile design, working with groups of school children, work experience and summer school participants. To this end she runs an annual summer workshop for North Lanarkshire Council in Oban and is a key player in the summer school workshops offered at the University.
Grace’s first love is travel; however a close second is printed textiles so it is no surprise that much of her own work has been influenced by these world-wide adventures. When she’s not teaching or learning she sometimes creates textile products for her business GraceInk Design.
