Eric Dawson is Audio-Visual Archivist with the Knox County Public Library's Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound. He's also a longtime local music journalist, former Arts and Entertainment editor of the Knoxville Voice and a board member of the nonprofit performance venue Pilot Light.

In feature films, documentaries, news footage and home movies, moving images offer unique and rich records of our cultural history. Due to the ephemeral nature of these artifacts, however, we can’t take their longevity for granted. Eric Dawson and John Morton offer a look inside the Knox County Public Library’s audio-visual archive, and examine the importance of film archiving as a means of preserving our past.
