Derek Nichols is passionate about potential. He is inspired by seeing it in people, places and policies. That’s really why he enjoys working with youth- their drive to make the world a better place is infectious. He has been a board member of the Western New York Environmental Alliance for three years and is a facilitator for Healthy Youth, Positive Energy, a group of Buffalo students focused on wellness in their schools. He has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and geography, and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University at Buffalo.

In Buffalo’s Renewable Energy Future from PechaKucha Buffalo Vol. 19, Sustainability Engagement Coordinator for the University at Buffalo (UB), Derek Nichols, describes a renewable energy initiative aiming to invest in the Buffalo, New York region while reducing energy costs for some of Buffalo’s largest institutions. This initiative is not just about the creation of power, but also empowering a new cohort of change agents through curriculum development and community engagement.
