Activist-in-Residence, Havens Center for Social Justice
Bill Gallegos is an environmental justice activist and leader. He was executive director for 8 years of Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), one of the leading environmental justice organizations in the US. He guided CBE’s work at the local and statewide level to achieve a comprehensive clean energy program – in both the transportation and electrical generation arenas – with equity and social justice at its center. This would ensure that California’s low-income communities of color receive the health, environmental, and economic benefits of the emerging clean -energy infrastructure, establishing a national model for the just transition from fossil fuel to clean energy. Gallegos has over three decades of experience as a social justice activist and leader. He has been a factory and union organizer, a campus organizer, and a community organizer. He is currently activist-in-residence at the Havens Center for Social Justice.
