Ben was only 27 when he and his girlfriend, Jazz, were hit by a
car while on holiday in the Dominican Republic in September 2010. Jazz was killed instantly. Ben suffered a severe head injury which left him in a coma and at the mercy of third-world hospital care.
His prognosis was not good, but to the astonishment (and often dismay) of his medical team, Ben snuck off to Glastonbury Festival within 6 months of leaving intensive care, completed a 2nd Masters degree, ran a half-marathon and wrote a book.
