Beauvais Lyons is a printmaker who is best known for his mock-documentary, project-based exhibitions that present imaginary archaeology, medicine, folk art, biography and natural history. He also lectures on a variety of subjects in the arts. He received his MFA from Arizona State University (1983) and his BFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1980). Beauvais Lyons offers an artistic, social, economic and political examination of “Des Nudas,” the bare–breasted, body-painted women who busk in Times Square. Themes include differentiation of naked and nude, the top-free movement and gender equality, historical and contemporary applications of body painting, freedom of speech and commerce, patriotism as a visual motif and art in public spaces.

Lithographic Printing From Pink Tennessee Marble


In August 2016, Kate Katomski collaborated with master printer Beauvais Lyons to create a series of prints for Quarry Project – Tennessee. A variety of methods were used, but most include a lithographic run from pink Tennessee marble, positive photo-lithography & monoprint. This collaboration is part of Kate Katomski’s Quarry Project, featured in November 2016 with a video and audio projection on the Knoxville Museum of Art, and exhibitions at the Museum of East Tennessee History and the Knoxville Museum of Art related to the history of the marble industry in East Tennessee. In this presentation Beauvais Lyons shares the history of the marble industry in East Tennessee and the process behind the work featured as part of Quarry Project - Tennessee.
