Wine a Little, Laugh A Lot!

@ VOL 5 ON SEP 15, 2015

"You can make just about anything into booze, right? Dandelion flowers, rotten potatoes, roadkill, ...just about anything!"

Kathleen thought she won the lottery when she and her new family moved into their new home and discovered a mature pear tree growing in the front yard…until they tried to eat one. The pears were either rock hard or complete mush, with no happy medium. She tried every which way to make something edible out of the fruit, but nothing turned out quite right. Kathleen finalized realized that the solution to her problem was not edible, but drinkable! Join maker and crafter extraordinaire Kathleen Angelski are she guides us through the step-by-step journey of making pear wine.

Wendy heartfully speaks of her growing business and community in Penticton, helped along by her family, her community and the sometimes surprising generosity of strangers, Wendy pays it forward by building Penticton into the bellydancing hub of Western Canada.

Drink Wine, Eat Chocolate

"Getting more pleasure, and enjoying [life] more, together." Good motto. Contemporary Swedish glass designer Åsa Jungnelius is interested in what is considered genuine or fake, and how value is created around an object. In "Drink Wine, Eat Chocolate" from a special Swedish Style x PechaKucha edition of PKN Tokyo (Vol. 66), we see that Åsa often uses stereotypes as a language that informs her design theory, and challenges the conventional meaning of these formulae.

Urban Innovation Winners

It's been a month since the first PechaKucha Urban Innovation Month came to a close. Dozens of projects were submitted from all over the world, from Buenos Aires to Vienna, from Lisbon to Vancouver. Each project is unique, but they all have one thread in common: they're all insanely passionate people looking to make life in the city better for the rest of us. The New Cities Foundation went through the over 30 submissions and chose two among them to be flown out to Dallas, Texas this June 17-19 to speak at the WhatWorks workshop at New Cities Summit 2014. To find out who won, have a look to our latest global newsletter in which we announce the winners.
