A Tour of Koszalin, the Final Word on Beer, All With Accordion Accompaniment

Presentations Today's two presentations come your way from Koszalin and Dayton. The one from Koszalin is by none other than PKN Koszalin organizer Gall Podlaszewski, and was done as part of our Global Cities Week. So follow Gall as she talks about her city (in Polish), PechaKucha-style. From Dayton, we get beer afficionado Max Spang who in "What the Hell Is Beer?" will go to great lengths to prove just how much he loves beer (and he's not alone). Posters On the poster front today, we've added three new ones, including posters for the upcoming collaboration between PKN Istanbul and PKN Yerevan (which this time, is an invitation-only event -- pictured above is the poster from the Yerevan side), and the poster for tonight's PKN Taos Vol. 6, celebrating "the remarkable women of Taos."  Photos We've started sharing more and more event galleries on our official PechaKucha Night Flickr account -- in the past it was only used for our Tokyo events -- and here are the latest photosets that have been added. Above, a shot from this month's PKN Panjim Vol. 2, followed by a look at PKN Washington Vol. 17.PKN Regensburg Vol. 8 [Flickr]PKN Panjim Vol. 2 [Flickr]PKN Washington Vol. 17 [Flickr]PKN Toronto Vol. 15 [Flickr]That Toronto set only has 2 photos, but the accordion player you see pictured is Ben Harvey, and he has performed at both Vol. 14 and Vol. 15. Below is a video of Ben in action (recorded/edited by Circuit Bent Media). httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJcjuELUKk8 Calendar It's looking like a great Friday, with 5 PechaKucha Nights in the calendar for tomorrow (May 18): PKN Zurich Vol. 11, PKN Varberg Vol. 2, PKN Singapore Vol. 4, PKN Lodz Vol. 8, and PKN Hakata Vol. 2.

Glass That Produces Heat, Killing Architecture, and Birthday Wishes from Catania

Presentations In this presentation, part of a special PKN event in Miami (Vol. 14) that dealt with sustainability and the environment, Roz Gatewood introduces EnergyGlass, a type of window that can produce heat. This presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) by Laco Tousek is about social exclusion and spatial segregation, and the social anthropologist's point of view on sharing urban spaces. Who wants to kill the street? Developers, politicians, and architects -- they are the creators of the barriers between people interaction. Using several samples of high valued architecture projects from all over the world, he portrays architecture as a killer of public spaces. Posters There are no new additions to the Tumblr blog today, so instead we highlight one of our recent uploads, in this case the poster you see above for PKN Bogota Vol. 9, happening on October 12.  Video The video above was produced by PKN Catania has a "happy birthday" message to PKN Tokyo a few months ago (when we were celebrating our 9th anniversary), and it's fantastic.   Calendar Tonight (September 26) we have our PKN Tokyo Vol. 95 at SuperDeluxe, where PK was born, as well as the following events: PKN Glasgow Vol. 10, PKN Skovde Vol. 9, PKN Lille Vol. 1, PKN Coventry Vol. 10, and PKN Providence Vol. 42. Tomorrow is another big night: PKN St. Louis Vol. 10, PKN Leeds Vol. 13, PKN Logrono Vol. 7, PKN Guatemala City Vol. 2, PKN Vigo Vol. 1, PKN Santa Barbara Vol. 5, PKN Varberg Vol. 3, PKN Vladimir Vol. 8, PKN Portsmouth Vol. 12, and PKN Hanoi Vol. 5.

A Very Young Presenter, Stand Up Paddleboarding, and Photos from Cape Town

Presentations You're never too young to do a PechaKucha presentation! Meet Archie, aged 7, who takes the opportunity in his presentation (from PKN Derby Vol. 5) to introduce us to his friend Jeremiah, aged 6, who lives in Kenya. As we learn in Henrik Fahlen's presentation (in Swedish, from PKN Varberg Vol. 2), SUP stands for "Stand Up Paddleboarding," which means that you stand up on a big surfboard and use a paddle. This ancient form of surfing reemerged when surf instructors realized the benefits of it, that by being higher you can better see oncoming waves. Today, SUP has turned into the fastest growing water sport in the world. Posters We kick off the week on the Tumblr blog with this new poster from Aalborg, for the city's upcoming Vol. 10. It was designed by Helena Sokol. You'll find the full list of presenters with links on the official event page. Photos Cape Town had its Vol. 21 just a few days ago, and here's a post from someone who attended the event that includes some rather nice photos from the event.  Calendar There are no PKNs on the agenda for tonight, but tomorrow (November 13) you'll find the following four events: PKN Brighton Vol. 17, PKN Leksand Vol. 5, PKN Denver Vol. 15, and PKN San Diego Vol. 16.
