In Halifax Music Co-op from PechaKucha Night Halifax Vol. 20, John Bogardus shares what the Halifax Music Co-op is. Bogardus is a curious and passionate conductor, and has been playing in and leading ensembles the majority of his life. In 2010, John started the program that would become the Halifax Music Co-op. Since that time, he has devoted his life to nurturing the organization and its membership as both Executive Director and Music Director of the HMC. His passion for music and musical education has grown the Halifax Music Co-op from humble beginnings to an organization of half a dozen ensembles and over 200 members.

Design for Social Innovation

This presentation (at PKN Tokyo Vol. 97, in Japanese) was put together by a group of students participating in the Design for Social Innovation Class.  In this course, art students demonstrate what design can do for both the repair of Tohoku's image and its physical reconstruction. The project lasted 8 months -- its goals were to bring more people to the Tohoku area, and motivate local residents through art.

Social Design in Japan

What exactly is social design?  In today's Presentation of the Day, "Social Design in Japan", (from a special PKN Tokyo held at the Heineken Star Lounge) Greenz.jp editor Hiroyuki Ono explains that social design involves the integration an element of collaboration, and typically seeks to solve a public issue in a creative, positive way. Ono gives some examples of social design unique to the Japanese nation; among them are a children's clothing company that employs elderly women, a company producing skin care products for impoverished women, and an app that allows you to send real-life thank you goods to those around you.

DJ Mr. Brown provided the beats for PechaKucha Design to Collide photo by Peter Vahan   PechaKucha Miami's "Design to Collide" welcomed more than 250 guests to The Rooftop Garden in the Miami Design District.  A special edition by Carl Hildebrand and Dejha Carrington, the topic was conceived around the notion that innovative design creates solutions to problems and develops relationships that would otherwise not take shape. Five speakers showed 20 images of their projects where, through design, people are made to talk to each other, share spaces and to literally run into each other. PechaKucha Night Istanbul Vol.18 Social Responsibility with Creative Touches was held

                 PechaKucha Night İstanbul Vol. 18 was held at Building Information Center (YEM) on Thursday, December  19, 2013. In this volume, we had been looking for  at  social responsibility from a creative perspective. It was our last Pechakucha event for 2013.  In the night, 150-200 guests were with us.  9 speakers were on the stage with their projects on social responsiblity. We were talking about urban transformation, design, architecture, parks, ecology,  food, social media and more titles. Under the subjects of "how could we make the world a better place to live? what can we do for sustainability? what 'a creative touch' could add to social responsibility projects? " After the presentations, at the break time, presenters met with guests.  They answered questions and explained how can they involve in these projects at the real time. Now, we are really excited for 2014. Follow us for the new year headlines and events

Data Science for Social Good

How can we make the world a better place using the power of data?  Big Brains, Big Buzzwords, and Big Hearts: in "Data Science for Social Good" from a special Table XI Table Talks event titled Technology for Social Good, Matt Gee tells us the story of how a disgruntled campaign staffer, a disgruntled PhD student, and a disgruntled journalist stumbled upon a way to make a little bit of good in the world with data.
