Unity Ride 2017

@ VOL 24 ON AUG 17, 2017

Who bicycles 3,200 miles in 35 days? Andre Block and Jonathan Williams do. The pair set off from Oceanside, California on Memorial Day and ended in Washington, DC on the 4th of July. All the while filming a documentary film.
Why? To promote love and unity in this divided nation. You see, one is liberal, the other conservative. The differences don’t end there. The journey was long and challenging, but also a lot of fun. The two inspired everyone they came in contact with, worked as a team despite their differences, and experienced this beautiful country from an entirely different perspective.

Rie Hosokai

One of the presentations that quite literally blew the crowd away at last week's PechaKucha Night in Tokyo Vol. 71 was by Rie Hosokai (Daisy Balloon) as she showed off her amazing balloon designs -- yes, every single item you'll see in the presentation, including the flowers and the dresses, was created out of balloons.

In Defense of Mariah Carey and Genoa's Duplex Ride

Presentations We'll say this: there aren't many people who are bigger fans of Mariah Carey than Tom McBride. In his presentation (from PKN Blue Mountains Vol. 1), he shares the enthusiasm and infectious passion he has for his biggest idol. In this presentation (in Italian, from PKN Genoa Vol. 1) by Marco Cacciamani we learn about Duplex Ride, a cultural association founded in 2010 and interested in all forms of art, which mainly organizes events for electronic music and video projections.
Duplex Ride is an idea in motion, it's an art collective, electronic research, experimenting in all its forms, including painting, photography, and writing. Posters There's no new addition to the Tumblr blog today, so instead we highlight one of the posters we recently added. Above, a dog takes care of washing down last month's PKN Mendoza Vol. 5.  Photos We now have full galleries of photos from last week's PKN Tokyo Vol. 94 to share, which you'll find on both Facebook and Flickr. All photos were taken by our regular photographer, Michael Holmes, along with his assistant Nomi.  Calendar We have three PKNs happening tonight (August 2): PKN Winter Harbor Vol. 6, PKN Springfield, IL Vol. 8, and PKN Victoria Vol. 10. Tomorrow you can look to these three cities: PKN Panjim Vol. 3, PKN Springfield, MO Vol. 7, and PKN Hakata Vol. 7.

Art for Post-Tsunami Recovery, Concbots in Dubai, and a Promo for Genoa

Presentations Our first presentation (from PKN Tokyo Vol. 93) covers three exhibition projects that Kate Thomson and Hironori Katagiri produced to support post-tsunami recovery. "Postcards From Japan" is an exhibition of A5-sized artworks by 22 Tohoku artists touring the world, so far shown in Edinburgh, New York, London, and Birmingham. "Postcards To Japan" includes over 470 works sent from all over the world to tour Tohoku, first shown at the Iwate Museum of Art, currently on show at Fukushima Museum of Art, next going to Minami Soma Museum and more informal venues along the coast of Tohoku. "TOHOKU-SCOTLAND" is an exhibition of sculpture, paintings, collage and prints by Scottish artists who took part in the Iwate Art Festival UK98 and artists from Tohoku shown in Edinburgh, UK. Vikram Divecha is an artist and advertising professional based in Dubai. In his presentation (from PKN Dubai Vol. 11), he shares with us his recent artistic project, Concbots, which has been inspired by Dubai and its ever-increasing levels of construction and urbanization. Posters and video Malaga's very first PKN is set for September -- the city is so new its city page on our site hasn't been activated yet -- and the poster above acts at a call to participate. Especially in the animal kingdom, love truly is a battlefield.  The San Lorenzo River harbors beautiful flora and majestic fauna.
