Emma Exley traces the history of Africa's last colony, the Western Sahara, located on the continent's northern coast. Through images of traditional Sahrawi architecture and culture, we learn about the challenges of desert living, and how something as small as a cup of tea has massive significance in the every day life of the Sahrawi people.
Emma Exley is a creative designer, former art educator, and diving enthusiast. After first discovering PechaKucha Night in Chicago in 2007, it was only a matter of time before she founded the Brooklyn chapter in 2014.

Liz McEnaney is an urban historian and preservatioist who has worked in exotic locales such as Maputo, New Delhi, and even New York City! She co-founded BldgBlok - an app that provides tourists with location-based historic content.
Liz's latest restoration project is a big one! The SS Columbia - America's oldest excursion steamship - is making its way back to the Hudson River - listen to her tale of bringing the ship back to life!

Today's "Presentation fo the Day" uncovers the Japanese salaryman in the wild. In October 2006, as he was taking photos of nature in the forest near Kawaguchiko, a salaryman with a suitcase appeared on the track. Ever since that day, Bruno Quinquet has tried to investigate the mysteries of office work in Japan through photography. He has exhibited this series in Japan and abroad. In 2012, he launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the production of the "Salaryman Project Business Schedule 2013."
Causes and Effects
In today's "Presentation of the Day" -- "Causes and Effects" -- designer Robert L. Peters uses various examples of design used to pass on a message or critique a particular world problem, using it as a call to arms, inviting everyone to choose their cause and do something about it. It was recorded at PKN Winnipeg Vol. 7.
iPads and Innovations
One of the speakers at the last event was Alexander Ryzhkov — head of the «November» and the project «Vyhodnoj», which highlights the fresh and up to date information about events and places in Dnipropetrovsk. He talked about owners of different cafes or restaurants that face with problems connected with POS terminals, because they are quite expensive and inconvenient. Alexander and his team offer a great solution — POS terminal based on the iPad. Intuitive, user-friendly and with very affordable price, it simplifies the work of the waiters, which saves both their time and the time of visitors.
SCRUM: Expectations and Reality
Alexander Korotkiy is a senior .NET developer in SmartGuy Group A/S and is leading MS SQL and .NET-related master classes in Ciklum. His presentation is plunging you into the magical world of dispersion, intervals, backlogs, complex systems and decomposition methods. Volodymyr Vorobiov, CEO Ruby Garage, in his presentation from PKN Dnipropetrovsk IT::Education made a presentation on the development of IT education. His advices were simple, but relevant at the same time. First, you need to read a lot. In the age of virtualization and total internetization, reading is necessary like the air! Success achievement in the field of IT education requires the following skills: positive motivation, getting practical experience and ongoing commitment to update information. Moreover it would be great to find a mentor who with his practical advice will guide you to the right and constructive direction. Go for it, and you get it all!

SO YOU’VE BEEN CHOSEN TO PRESENT You’ve gotten over the hard part of whether to take on the challenge to get up there in front of a large audience. Congratulations! Now here’s what you need to know. Invite your friends. Remember to invite your friends and family to attend! Visit our Facebook Page. You're on the List. Each of you will have received an invitation to create or update your speaker profile on the global Pecha Kucha website. Once you update your profile (or even if you don't), it'll be listed in the PechaKucha.org cities. Follow the Pecha Kucha Format. In the spirit of following the global Pecha Kucha format, we ask that you show a total of 20 slides (images - minimal text if any) and speak about each slide for 20 seconds during your presentation. This gives you a total of six minutes and 40 seconds to present. No sales pitches. Our audiences can smell a sales pitch a mile away. Please, no overt selling. Create your presentation in PowerPoint. We prefer that you submit your presentation already in PowerPoint. If you don’t have PowerPoint let us know and we’ll work with you. You don’t need to include a title slide. Use your 20 slides for content and images; we’ll handle your introduction so you can focus on your story. Our emcee will introduce you by reading your bio, and our designers will create a transition slide with your name, organization, and topic listed. Tips for your PowerPoint Use the standard Page Setup (Slides sized for On-screen Show (4:3), Width: 10 Inches, Height: 7.5 Inches) Save images at 72 dpi to reduce the file size. In the “View” menu select “Slide Sorter” Hit Ctrl+a to select all slides. The Odyssey Project
"It seeks to demonstrate how artistic cooperation transcends class, racial and social barriers ... and serves as an alternative to incarceration and penalty."In "The Odyssey Project" from PechaKucha Santa Barbara Vol. 14, Ahmed Asi describes the collaborative theater process between youth from a juvenile detention facility in Santa Barbara county and undergraduate students from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Using the template of Homer's Odyssey, the participants gather on the university campus to explore the mythic elements in their lives in order to reconstruct the epic poem in their own voices. The project leads to a public performance at a local theater. Everyone on this creative journey is a hero or heroine. The project is designed to honor youth in identifying their heroic life mission and map a course of action. It employs theater arts as a strategy for inspiring life affirming choices.
"It was really through their workshop of the simple, almost futile, act of making paper flowers that we realized the potential for bringing diverse groups together." in Project Yemanja from PechaKucha night Bexhill-on-Sea, Vol. 4, Esther Springett speaks about a fascinating effort that sprung from a seemingly misplaced Brazilian festival in Camden called Santido, which aimed to connect sights, smells, sounds and senses of Brazil to Camden. Coinciding with the Rio Olympics this project centered on water and the act of sending well wishes in the form of paper flowers down rivers and out to sea. Hear the story of how hundreds of these paper flowers we're made in Camden and scenically sailed up the regents canal.
