Les Calotte Polaires et le Réchauffement Climatique - Ice Sheets and Global Warming

@ VOL 1 ON NOV 20, 2014

The response of both ice sheets to global change will be fully different.

Kal Barteski: Polar Bear Artist

@ VOL 36 ON NOV 22, 2018

Artist and activist Kal Barteski is a notable figure in the arts scene in Winnipeg who is most famously known for her playful script work and polar bear art. She calls herself a "polar bear artist", and rightfully so as she's successfully spread her work throughout the city and beyond. Here in her PechaKucha Night Winnipeg talk, Kal talks about polar bears (of course), why they're important, and what you can learn from them. She also talks about her work and her initiatives not only in Winnipeg but in Churchill, Manitoba, the polar bear capital of the world.

Kal's talk was recorded live at PechaKucha Night Winnipeg Vol. 36, on November 22 2018, at the Park Theatre.

The band covered in total more than 100000 km (twice the length of the Earth equator, about 1/4 of distance from the Earth to the Moon), performing in most of regional capitals in North-West and Central part of Russia, and to the Ural mountains. On the basis of the received concert experience and communication with musicians with different national background the band Yagoda Galo got an idea to prepare a concert program, representing Arkhangelsk regional culture and creating an image of the White Sea and the Russian North. As a result, in 2010-2012 Yagoda Galo recorded an album, named POLAR– a vivid compilation of originally arranged traditional and author’s songs. The band plans to publish and make a presentation of the album POLAR in spring 2013. Web-page: galo.borey@yandex.ruPhone: 8 911 571 63 19 (Ilya – administrator)8 909 550 91 77 (Nick - musician)

Paper is Still Alive!

"Comics, illustration, photography, text, poetry, calligraphy, all media are welcome in Labo." In Paper is Still Alive, from PechaKucha Night Tokyo, Vol. 126, French illustrator, and Labo publisher, Julie Blanchin presents her experimental, beautifully silk screen handcrafted, limited edition magazine that brings together French and Japanese artists from all walks. Interestingly, Labo Magazine spawned from both inspiration and need, after Blachin's plans to write a book on a expedition to Antarctica with the Japanese Institute of Polar Research suddenly and unexpectedly fell through. Her storyboards leading up to the book became part of her blog, and would eventually became part of Labo. "Paper is still alive" she says, calling for new participants and collaborators. Get in touch with her to participate!

Hands with Hope

“There are stories after stories of young children who are already missing permanent teeth because their moms had pulled them because the excruciating pain was too much to bear. ” Restless in her day-to-day profession of dental hygienist, Annie Nardone found a way to create more meaningful work for herself while still using her expertise in dentistry. In PechaKucha Night Batavia’s 1st volume, she discusses how she created Hands with Hope, a not-for-profit foundation, to deliver training, dental treatment, equipment, and supplies to impoverished communities in Central America. Currently, Hands with Hope maintains and supports three fully functioning dental clinics in Honduras and Guatemala, which are run and operated by locally trained individuals eager to serve their communities.
