Dynamicube floor & table lamp

@ VOL 8 ON MAY 08, 2014

DYNAMICUBE (floor lamp)

Dynamicube floor lamp is a simple cube made of eight enlightening smaller cubes. Three simple hinged movements invert the lamp: its outer surfaces all become inner surfaces and vice versa.

Dynamicube may easily be produced in series, given that its main structure is composed by the assembly of interlocking pieces having the same shape.
The framework is made of aluminum (a plate of a few millimeters shaped with the thick laser cut technique) and is covered with special polycarbonate films.
A sorter box is used for the exterior, which is assembled without the use of any screws or bolts.
The project takes inspiration from the patent of Peter-Michael Pfeiffer in 1964 and following evolution made by Naoki Yoshimoto in 1971.

DYNAMICUBE II (table lamp)
Dynamicube II is an enlightened cube (15x15 cm) which may be decomposed and shaped in many positions.
The project takes inspiration from the geometry of the cube and its simple decomposition.
A complete revolution of its shape may be done with a few easy movements: the outer surfaces of the cube all become inner surfaces and vice versa.
The lamp creates a paradox: when the bright faces are turned towards the interior it creates a lantern effect that does not really exist. As a matter of fact there is no light bulb or light source at the center of
the object: it's the structure itself of the cube that creates the light seen from outside.
Dynamicube II is made of four square surfaces and four triangular ones. Four square faces of the cube are OLED panels (also an option is to add four further OLED triangular panels): the OLED are both on
the external and internal faces of the cube.
The structure is made with the technology of Wood-Skin®

Below, more details from PKN Leeds organizer Stuart Hide.PKN Leeds has come together with Interior Educators (IE) to hold an independent Pechakucha event their third annual IE Free Range graduate show entitled ‘Re-Imagine’ to be held at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick lane, London on Monday 18th July. The IE Free range Re-Imagine show is the largest exhibition to view the best work from 2011 graduates from leading undergraduate courses in Interior Architecture and Interior Design within the UK. This year will see over 300 graduates exhibiting at the show. In celebration of the students achievements, IE are putting on a number of special events over the course of the show. The launch of the show on Thursday 14th July (6-10pm) will no doubt be a momentous occasion with the initial opportunity to view the show accompanied with beverages and music. Friday 15th (10am-5pm) will see the celebrations continue with a specialist publishers day, where a number of publishers will be providing book presentations, launches as well as stalls around the subject area of ‘Interiors’. Over the Saturday, Sunday and the Monday the exhibition will continue for all to enjoy. On the evening of Monday 18th July (7-10pm) acting as a book end to the show and as the crescendo to the whole event, PKN Leeds in association with IE have organised a specialist PechaKucha Night around the theme of ‘Re-Imagined Spaces’. This is billed as the largest interiors based PechaKucha held this year. With some of the leading UK practioners, academics and thinkers the discipline has to offer. The event is free to all so please join us for an evening of thinking and drinking within a re-imagined space!

Landscape in Lens

Sites of nerve-gas disposal, toxic chemical and oil spills, widespread nuclear waste, all within the United States borders. In today's Presentation of the Day, "Landscape in Lens" from PKN Fairfield Vol. 1, David Hanson describes his photographic work as "an investigation into the contemporary American landscape." His primary focus is the human impact on nature, and among his subjects are dirty coal-driven power plants, ICBM nuclear missile silos hidden amongst agricultural land, and hazardous waste sites. His fascinating work helps to contextualize these sites within history, and their surrounding areas.
