BY STEPHEN FERGUSON
@ VOL 12

"My running career started in 2011 when I accidentally caught diabetes and so my first job was to buy a pair of running shoes and sign-up for a couch to 5k."
Stephen Ferguson talks to us about the challenge of running his first marathon and that this inspired him to continue running and be awarded the World Marathon Majors, a medal won by fewer people than have climbed Mount Everest.

Don’t Just Sign on the Dotted Line: Assessing Fitness to Drive
BY DR. GENEVIEVE YATES
@ VOL 42
ON SEP 02, 2015
“Nothing can bring the love of my life back. But if sharing our story indirectly results in one fewer person being injured by an unfit driver, at least some good has come out of this senseless tragedy.”
In “Don’t Just Sign on the Dotted Line: Assessing Fitness to Drive,” Dr. Genevieve Yates, a family physician from Australia, reminds us that driving is a privilege, not a right.
In July 2015, while visiting friends in LA, her partner was hit and killed while out jogging. Since he died, she has been trying to find things that are positive and helpful to make a very horrible situation feel a little less senseless. One of these is by raising awareness of the dangers of unfit drivers on the road, and she put together a PechaKucha to spread this important message.
She hopes that by sharing her personal story in this way, it might just result, indirectly at least, in someone’s husband, wife or child being spared.

Renown illustrator Mariya Suzuki walks you through her jogging course with her drawings. She's not a sports person, but lately, she does jog sometimes since she's more aware of her age. At least she lives in a pretty cool neighborhood.
