Ay, Eye, I, iPhoneography

@ VOL 4 ON MAR 09, 2013

Lulú De Panbehchi shows us how to pick one subject and use that to explore ourselves. In this PechaKucha she uses iPhoneography, sometimes with filters and sometimes not, to take photos of just her own eye. By doing this she explores both herself and her world during her journey through cancer and chemo.

Phil Fish at PKN Montreal Vol. 13

Fans of indie gaming, and more importantly of the upcoming and hotly anticipated game Fez from the Polytron Corporation, will not want to miss next week's PechaKucha Night in Montreal Vol. 13 (September 30), where Polytron designer Phil Fish will give a presentation on his other game -- Power Pill, an iPhone title designed in collaboration with developer Infinite Ammo -- "[t]alking about the highs and lows of designing a multi-touch game for fun and profit."

Power Pill

It's no secret that yours truly is personally excited about the upcoming iPhone game Power Pill from Canadian creators Polytron and Infinite Ammo -- forming the all-powerful Infinitron Polypharma -- and as we previewed last week, Polytron's Phil Fish was set to reveal the first details of the game at this week's PechaKucha Night in Montreal. Organizers will also be participating in the PechaKucha WAVE on the 20th, joining in on the "Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti." And what a great poster -- do you remember that girl?

Where to Watch?

For anyone still not sure about where you'll be able to follow the live stream of the "Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti" tomorrow (February 20), you'll be able to do so from the front page of this very site. As we are supported by Ustream -- who is making sure that the stream will be able to handle the high number of people we're expecting to check in -- the stream will also be featured on the front page of the Ustream website. But even better for those of you not at home when it all happens, you'll be able to follow the entire broadcast on your iPhone and Android phone, using the free Ustream Viewer Application.

Form Follows Beauty

Picture yourself relaxing on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, sipping coconut juice, all the while taking time to enjoy the simple, fluid contours of the waves and mountains. Are you getting it? Well, architect and co-host to PKN Chicago Peter Exley is living it.  In this edition of "Presentation of the Day", Exley speaks of the "free and sensual curves" he illustrates on his iPhone while out and about. He demonstrates the importance of recognizing the meandering lines found in nature, and shows how some architects (like the recently passed Oscar Niemeyer) translate these lines into their work. You'll find, as he says, "form doesn't follow function, form follows beauty".

Making Stuff is Tough

"Have you ever had an idea for a product that was so compelling that you felt it just had to exist?" Ethan Lowry, co-creator of Poppy, a device that, when paired with an iPhone creates 3D GIF images that convey a strong sense of three-dimensional depth. It’s like looking at a 3D scene through a piece of glass. With Poppy, creating these images is incredibly easy. In "Making Stuff is Tough" from PKN Santa Barbara Vol. 11, Ethan speaks on the trials and tribulations that went into building and mass-producing a device originating in his imagination.
