How to FAKE it in Hollywood

@ VOL 3 ON NOV 12, 2015

"I packed up everything I owned into my little red Chrysler LeBaron convertible, (I know, right, gayest car ever, and this was before I came out, which is a whole other PechaKucha), and I drove 2000 miles from Michigan to Los Angeles, to follow my dreams."

Brad Gorman wasn't always living a tranquil life in Benton Harbor, MI as Communications & Media Manager for Whirlpool Corporation. Nope, not always. In his twenties he gave it a "go" out in Hollywood where he learned a thing or two about the industry, rejection, persistence and how to "FAKE IT". In How to FAKE it in Hollywood from PechaKucha Night St. Joseph Vol. 3, Brad shares his Hollywood dream of making it big.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Thursday, December 31st, 2015.

If Fonts were Celebrities

@ VOL 6 ON MAR 07, 2015

Pavithra Ramanujam is a sucker for bright colours, bezier curves, smooth gradients and crisp jalebis. They serve as my muse as I design keynotes, prezi’s, visual interfaces and cool icons at work. Her latest obsession: lettering and stitching -- and comparing fonts to the rich and famous.

Goodbyes from Providence

PechaKucha Night in Providence is still healthy and strong -- the momentous Vol. 20 happens this month, on November 16 -- but the organizer who started the series there, Stephanie Gerson, has recently passed the baton on to someone else as she's leaving the city, and we loved the following message from her so much that we wanted to share it. Just a quick message to share what an absolute pleasure it's been starting PechaKucha Night in Providence, and hosting it here for a year and a half! PK has created quite a stir in this city; I seem to have become somewhat of a local celebrity for bringing it to town, and I believe we're the only city besides Tokyo that has enough demand & supply to host nights every single month! I'm moving to New York in a week, I handed off the reigns to a fabulous new host, and look forward to participating in PKs in the big apple. Thanks again for starting something so brilliant, so simple, so human, and giving me the opportunity to share it with Providence. Yeehaw!

11th PKN in Koszalin

11 presentations for the 11th Pecha Kucha Night in Koszalin. Without a doubt, we will continueGall Podlaszewski's great job. It was a pleasure to see the Graal Pub's rooms crammed with so many people. It was better to come there earlier and take a seat, but for latecomers, there was a transmission on a led display. We didn't expect that so many people would be interested in this event, this reminded us our first steps and the crowd of people during our first event in the BWA Pub.Among the audience and presenters, we noticed a lot of new faces, however, nothing has changed, considering a pleasant ambiance full of a friendliness and an encouragement. Because of it, there was a chance for the youngest (Kuba Janiel and Martyna Szostak)to do a presentation (first time in the PKN history in Koszalin).Martyna struggled with a stage fright having told about her love to drawing and photography. She ened her presentation with a statement:"It's not enought to have only one passion". Kuba told about his authoric talk-show and encouraged to watch the celebrity interviews online. For more than two hours, you could have listened to presentations about travels (Wojtek Słupczyński, Radosław Bąkowski i Irena Filipiak, Frytarda Dudzik), architectonicprojects (Mariusz Staszewski, Waldemar Waszkiewicz), how to help for homeless animals(Joanna Przybyło), about the activity of The Political Critique Club (Jacek Wezgraj),ang about joga (Kinga Chabros). But first presentation was on-line, made by our pioneer of PKN in Koszalin Gall Podlaszewski. He told about Indonesia, the place where he moved. We was pinch-hit for by Mateusz Prus in the role of leading. He was incredible. Having had so much possitive energy, we are planning new event. We have just received an invitation to do next PKN in the narrow gauge railway station.I'm sure we will do it in a speeding train, or we will do one presentasion on every singlestation. We have another idea to do PKN in the theatre too. The presentations on-line soon!
