Back to Baldy!

Baldy Mountain Resort, located just over an hour south of Penticton has been closed for years. A beautiful location, historically gorgeous snow and a vibrant mountain community once supported a tiny locally run resort. Joey O’Brien leverages his presentation to chart the difficult and adventurous journey from forgotten to revived, and how Baldy is proactively laying the foundation for a thriving community for years to come, including why they’ve offered $19 annual passes.

Stronger than the Prognosis

@ VOL 25 ON MAR 27, 2018

This presentation is about accomplishing great physical feats after being told you never would.

Heather Laptalo is addicted to high altitudes, open vistas and heart-pounding sufferfests that challenge her physically and mentally.  The only time she's not running is when she's skiing or climbing a mountain.  She wasn't always like this.  She grew up wearing back braces and had a spinal fusion and total reconstructive back surgery, all before the age of 20 to stop her scoliosis and kyphosis from getting worse.  85% of her spine is fused and she's missing 40% of her lung capacity, leaving her 20% physically disabled.  She defied all the odds and proven countless doctors wrong.  She's #strongerthantheprognosis

Closing the Outdoor Knowledge Gap

@ VOL 6 ON NOV 01, 2018

For those who grow up in the outdoors, it comes easy. It is much easier to be a competent skiier, or climber, or adventurer if you come at it from an early age. Yet contrary to popular belief, David Steele shows that old dogs CAN learn new tricks. The great benefit to a person trying something new is people who have been on that path before themselves. David shows that life can be challangeing and exciting for all of us at all stages of the journey, no matter if you are a cohort, a mentor, or an up-and-comer.

Drawn From the Present

@ VOL 7 ON APR 05, 2019

Collin Hamman never takes his time for granted and makes a point of using each moment as a possibility for inspration. His graphic design and illustrations are heavily influenced by his time spent in the wilderness of Montana where he sees constant opportunity for the next t-shirt, logo, or printed design work that may come his way. Being self-employed as an artist is never easy, but when you mix pleasure with work the way Collin does, you will always come away fulfilled.

Introduction of Jackson Wells

Before the sun sets, we have a pleasure to introduce you one more person who loves snow: Jackson Wells. Jackson is the youngest from the Wells brothers. He added a new trick, a switch quad 1620, into the trick lexicon this winter. In the age 18, he is the first on the world to do the quad cork - four spins - on skis. Skiing since the age of three, Jackson oozes pure enjoyment on snow and is easy to spot from the huge grin on his face. Jackson represented NZ in freeski at the 2014 and 2015 FIS Junior World Champs and at the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games. His disciplines are Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Big Air.   Picture by Hannah Peters.
