Fashion Forward: From Madeira to Paris

@ VOL 1 ON JUL 25, 2014

In Fashion Forward: From Madeira to Paris at PechaKucha Night Loulé Vol. 1,  Fatima Lopes, a Portuguese fashion designer, shares the story of her aspirations of becoming a runway fashion designer that began on her hometown, the quaint, lovely Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. From there, she traveled to Libson and then, eventually the infamous mecha of Fashion, Paris. There she persevered and followed her dreams to become the renowned designer she is today. You won't want to miss out on this inspiring tale!

Fatima Lopes (Funchal, March 8, 1965) is a Portuguese fashion designer.

Natural of Madeira, Fatima Lopes grew up in the city of Funchal. Since child showed an interest in the fashion world and during his teens, dissatisfied with the outfit that was sold in Funchal, started creating clothes for herself. Thanks to his fluency in foreign languages, worked in Funchal as a tour guide for a travel agency.

In 1990 he moved to Lisbon in order to pursue a career as a stylist. In this city opened with a friend a store called "Versus", which essentially sold clothing from international designers. In 1992 the store's name changed to "Fátima Lopes". In September of the same year he participated as creative a fashion show held in a convent in Lisbon, where its proposals were well received.

In 1994 shows his first clothing in the "Salon du Prêt-à-Porter Feminin" in Paris. The following year participates in the national fashion event, the "Portugal Fashion". Between 1996 and 1998, Fatima starts to draw shoes and wallets directed either to the female audience, whether the male audience.

In 1996 opens its first international store, located in the city of Paris.

Since 1999 participates twice a year in the Hall Paris Fashion currently being this only Portuguese. In 2000 causes great media attention by parading in the French capital the most expensive bikini in gold and diamonds, valued at about one million dollars.

In 2002 he was invited by Mattel to create a Barbie doll and decided to play the doll bikini gold and diamonds used in Paris. In 2003 he opened his first clothing store in the United States, located in the city of Los Angeles.

In 2010 presented sic program "The Pursuit of the Dream" Face model of the year 2010 "

PKN Gothenburg Vol. 15

Last month's PechaKucha Night in Gothenburg Vol. 15 was held as part of the Kulturkalaset cultural city festival, and a recommendation in the local newspaper ended up giving the event a record breaking audience of 620, 50% of that first-time PKN attendees. Here's more from organizer Jesper Larsson. Lots of great presentations, and our first TED talker on stage (!!), Magnus Larsson, who presented on how one can stop the desertification with the help of bacteria. Carina Sundqvist talked about her mission to create sustainable tourist experiences, such as guided tours in Gothenburg. Afterwards, her beacon tour in the archipelago was picked up by the local tourist board!! Jens Thoms Ivarsson made his second appearance on the PechaKucha GBG stage and presented his ideas, and how everybody speaks about how they GET ideas, not about who or what GIVES them the ideas. Evelina Wahlqvist used Sex & The City as a metaphor when speaking about women’s part in relation to the modern city. Finnur Sverrisson gave examples of how to be more creative and have more fun at work -- one tip was to always snap a picture of yourself and attach to emails so the recipien can see what you looked like while writing it! Below, more photos from PKN Gothenburg Vol. 15, courtesy of Albin Oskarsson.
