@ VOL 4
ON SEP 20, 2013
Freedom is man's capacity to choose, with dignity, commitments to himself. Really free is the man who can set the limits of self - awareness that creates the outline of his existence.
"Freedom" is to act in accordance with what creates love in your soul.
Therefore it is not enough to not be enslaved to be free. We need to walk in accordance with what causes love. For example what excites or stirs your soul. Living a life of routine and mediocracy, you are not free.

SITEWIDE BLOG POSTS
It's Monday, so time to start another round of presentation highlights from the site. Today we look at Janne Kyttänen's "Freedom of Creation" presentation from the recent PechaKucha Night in Amersfoort Vol. 1. It's about his belief in a future where data is the design product, and where products are distributed in the same way images and music travel through the internet today. And how simple it works: 1. Just make a 3D file 2. Email the file to a 3D printer 3. Rroduct ready. It's that simple!
Poster for PKN Istanbul Vol. 7
The next PechaKucha Night in Istanbul is coming, and here are a few words from co-organizer Nilufer Agcakisla. Note that it will be held at Yapi-Endustri Merkezi A.S., and that you'll find the list of presenters with links on the official event page. On 8th of December, technology, art, city, architecture and academic environment are coming together for PKN Istanbul Vol.7 with the organisation of 34SOLO. It seems like Istanbulites have fallen into a new habit and that you may stumble accross a PechaKucha follower at any moment, especially if you are wandering around the creative fields.
What Is PechaKucha to You?
As part of Bucharest's PechaKucha Night Vol. 7 (see photos here), organizers handed out a simple questionnaire to attendees, to get some feedback on the event and format. Here are some of the key words and thoughts that came out of it: The presentation itself with images, the joy and curiosity of people around me, everything by now, the freedom of expression, the creativity, the social network, the innovative concept and diversity of subjects, interesting presenters and beautiful ideas, atmosphere and place, concision, the idea, presenters' and participants’ spirit and attitude, the format and the moderator, the original subjects, the fact that no one can monopolize the microphone, originality, freedom, the different way of interaction between people, free style, short presentation and super atmosphere, diversity, the format, you cannot get bored by presentations, informal atmosphere and presentations, the golden rule: 20x20.
PKN Koszalin in the News
And as a follow-up to our previous post with photos from PechaKucha Night in Koszalin Vol. 7, here's also some recent print coverage, from an article that had some very nice things to say about PechaKucha. From organizer Gall Podlaszewski:In the local weekly newspaper, PechaKucha was once again coined as the most inspiring idea of the year. People love the informal atmosphere, as well as the freedom of speech and of sharing ideas -- all framed in the rigid 20x20 format.
What do you associate freedom with? Antonio Melo has always connected his bicycle with an empowering sense of independence -- the ability to go anywhere and do anything at any time. In today's Presentation of the Day, "Freedom Cycles" from PKN Louisville Vol. 3, he discusses this liberty, and juxtaposes it with his experiences cycling about New York during the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centers.
The Poetry of Marriage
Is love a journey? Is it work? Is it a battlefied? Or a force? Lauren Shapiro is an artist and academic whose primary interest is in how art effects individual, interpersonal, and social change. In "The Poetry of Marriage" from PKN Santa Cruz, CA Vol. 7, Lauren speaks on how she applies literary theory to the study of lifespan development, and explores how metaphors spoken between lovers predict the course of romantic relationships.
Free Energy: Shifting from Scarcity to Abundance
Is there such thing as your own personal freedom from big energy corporations? Can we truly get rid ourselves from expensive electricity and fuel bills? Frederik Stimmel thinks so. For the past decade, Frederik has been focusing his works on clean, renewable energy solutions, and he believes that this is the time to free ourselves from the shackles of energy dependency and move into a golden age of abundance. He will be sharing his experience and vision at PechaKucha Night Ubud #20 this Tuesday, August 26th. Frederik is the exemplar-zero chief of science and technology at Humanitad. He is an electric engineer, free energy researcher and entrepreneur. He has been developing an open source technology, which will make Free Energy available for everybody very soon at very little cost. He believes that free energy is the key to true freedom of humanity.
Dancing in the Office
"For me, dancers represent freedom, while salarymen represent something opposite. I like to create this interaction". In Dancing in the Office from PKN Tokyo Vol. 136, photographer Yulia Skogoreva found herself on an interesting and unexpected path that took her from linguistics, to dance, to photography. In her latest project she juxtaposes two completely opposite elements of society, busy salarymen and dancers, and the results are delightful. Have a look!
The Power of Paper
“I started to fold the paper boat and somehow I travelled around the world.” In The Power of Paper from PechaKucha Night Glasglow Vol. 28 Frank Bölter talks about his practice as an artist working with paper as a material to build boats and houses. He began using his work to challenge expectations both inside and outside the academic art world while a student at the Münster Academy of Art from 1998 to 2003. Boelter’s projects are distinguished equally by their powerful poetic imagery and by the precision of their execution, often carried out under the difficult conditions of the public sphere and galvanising the public into action.
PKN Poster Spotlight: Sapporo
PechaKucha Night Sapporo announces their PKN Vol. 3 with a beautifully refined promotional poster. The poster proudly showcases a traditional Japanese writing system called Tategaki, characters written in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered from right to left. The intentionality of this minimalistic poster is to find freedom by removing much of the external clutter that distract us. You definitely won't want to miss Sapporo's next event!
