International curator, Entrepreneur, 《Taiwan by Design》Author
Hailing from Australia, Annie is an award-winning curator working with art, technology, and contemporary issues. With many years of experience in different locations around the world, Annie is now a dear friend of Taiwan. She became deeply involved in Taiwanese culture after receiving a “Trip View Bowl” as gift. She thought that the blue-and-white porcelain bowl was beautiful but it needed someone to tell its story to global audiences. Soon after, Annie started a major book project to find 100 iconic products and interview the designers. Many challenges were on the way but she was brave and motivated to finish the work. Annie says: When I follow my dream, I see “impossible” as “I’m possible”.

PKN Groningen Climbs Tasman Tower
As we previewed last week, last night's PechaKucha Night in Groningen Vol. 12 featured one of the most interesting venues we've yet seen. Here's more from organizer Simon Groen: PechaKucha Night Vol. 12 in Groningen was held in the new Tasman Tower, that is not ready yet (pictured above, a rendering of the finished building). It is a rather high PechaKucha, on the 23th floor. Visitors were brought to that floor in an elevator. Because the Tasman Tower is still a construction site, visitors were given a headphone with safety instructions. On the top floor visitors saw presentations by the first Dutch astronaut, Wubbo Ockels, and the archtiect of the Tasman Tower, Wicher van der Wal, and some 10 other presentations. Visitors were also served a "high tea." Last night's event also commemorated the untimely death of Mark Hoekstra, who originally brought PKN to Groningen -- see also yesterday's post on the "Mark Hoekstra PechaKucha Award."

PechaKucha People: Leslie Tsai
As co-founder of the City Creative Center in Tainan, Taiwan, and PhD student at the Institute of Creative Industries Design, our PechaKucha People Spotlight this week lands on Leslie Tsai. Through organizing PechaKucha Nights in the culturally rich city, he's driven to incubate, promote, and empower it's emerging young talent. UPDATE FROM EARTHQUAKE HIT TAIWAN: Very Relieved that PechaKucha Tainan, Taiwan city organisers Leslie Tsai and Nini Lee are safe after the big earthquake in Tainan. We have been in touch - Leslie says the situation is 'very serious' - a heritage project he has been working on has been badly damaged. We will chat more when the situation is calmer. The whole PechaKucha global community wishes you positive strength over the next hours and days - we will try to help in anyway we can. In a strange coincidence we featured Leslie as PechaKucha Person of the week - on Monday - on the top page of the www.pecha-kucha.org site. Check back here for updates. 2016.02.06, 12:56:52 CST, (UTC+08:00)
