Nostrum Collective

@ VOL 9 ON JUN 05, 2014

Nostrum Collective is a photographic project to show the relationship between a group of friends formed on the sea for surfing and the Sea through our photo shoot. Every kind of relationship with the sea is accepted, whether it be surfing, swimming, fishing or diving- or simply looking into that magical blue water. Nostrum Collective would like to be a high quality photographic diary with a very deep Ligurian and Mediterranean identity to share with all people who love the sea and the many beautiful moments it gives to us.

The Best Camera

@ VOL 132 ON JAN 27, 2016

"It's a bit embarrassing to talk about the tools like this, but this comes back to, after using 1000's of cameras, what I think the best camera is. I think the best camera is...."

What's the best camera ever made? Notorious photography hack and noted local yokel, Brian Scott Peterson ought to know. After all, in the course of 20 years of making photos, nearly 1000 cameras and lenses, have passed through his possession. In "The Best Camera" from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 132, he shares some musings on the most treasured of his arguably modest collection, focussing in on the very best one.

In a Matter of Time

@ VOL 15 ON JUN 09, 2017

Photography: A Tool for Social Change

@ VOL 39 ON APR 27, 2019

Janneth Gil is a Colombian-born, New Zealander. She started drawing and painting at a young age however, the social instability, poverty and cultural beliefs of her birth country led her to follow an Electrical Engineering and Project Management career. She now has the opportunity to completely dedicate her life to what she is most passionate about, art through the eye of a lens. She is currently studying a Master of Fine Arts, majoring in Photography at the University of Canterbury.

She truly believes in helping others with her skills and uses her photography as a tool for social change to empower, teach, or simply help people to better understand others. Through her photography, Janneth depicts people and their interactions with others and their environment, exploring cultures, societal norms and the conflict between perceptions, emotions and reality.
Her own social photography-based projects include Our Voices depicting the life stories of a group of people living with disability in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, and Void. Void is largely drawn from Janneth’s autobiographical narratives exploring themes and ideas about identity construction and transculturalism in the context of immigration. More of her work can be found at

In this PechaKucha Janneth shares how she has used photography as a tool for social change. She encourages exchanging our hidden stories with the hope we would recognise similarities with the “other” therefore, contributing to create a more accepting, tolerant and inclusive society despite our differences.

PKN Ostrava is really something special -- as organizer Jiri Vecherek puts it, the Czech Republic is "hungry for culture. 1200 free tickets for [PKN Ostrava Vol. 10] were gone in the matter of hours. This is how popular [PechaKucha Night] has become." He's put together a sort of teaser trailer for their Vol. 10 event. In the video you'll get to see how large PKN Ostrava has grown! If you prefer your pictures stationary, they've also posted a number of galleries of Ostrava's prior PechaKucha Nights.

Photos and Videos from PKN Bilbao Vol. 13

PKN Bilbao knows how to have fun -- back in October, they held their Vol.13 evening in their new Bilborock venue. The organizer, Jone Zubiaga, had this to say about the event: "10 new projects were presented ... One of the presenters talked about the lack of smiles [in our day to day routine]. And how did she put a smile on our faces? Well, she rapidly distributed hundreds of little red clown noses to the crowd, had them raise their hands up and shout, 'TA-DA!'" For a closer look at this PechaKucha night's presenters, take a look at PKN Bilbao's YouTube channel.
