Sha Hwang takes us through the history of .gifs, and their use in society, as an emotive vocabulary for current events, sports, and every day life.

Sha is an information designer and technologist based mostly in Brooklyn. A failed architect and an accidental entrepreneur, Sha has designed and built work for clients such as the New York Times, MTV, Flickr, and Adobe. Previously, Sha worked at Stamen Design and later cofounded the company Movity, which was acquired by Trulia. Sha spends his nights trawling Tumblr and printing gifs as Gifpop and his days working with Nava to improve and other parts of government.

Lyla Catellier gives good directions! At PechaKucha Night Brooklyn Volume 8, Lyla put her 7 siblings to the test - a test of spatial memory mapping. With 5/7 siblings worth of maps of her hometown, Lyla explores the wonders of the hippocampus.

Lyla is a lady living in Chelsea NYC. She currently directs public programs and events at Columbia University GSAPP and was once called a swiss army knife. She is a logistics maverick, and has always wanted someone to refer to her as a maverick, and at PK Brooklyn Volume 8, we did!

In Educating with Food in the Hudson Valley at PechaKucha Night New York Vol.16Lauren Maples walks us through the importance and strength of a sustainable, natural, and health-conscious education. While teaching yoga and dance in public schools, she developed the Bija approach - which strives to create a fulfilling and engaging educational experience. 

Lauren has danced with internationally acclaimed ballet companies including San Francisco Ballet and New York City Ballet, and holds a BA from New School.

As a kid, she spent most of her time at her family’s letterpress shop—an ancient dusty dreamatorium where an imagination can wild. She is currently on the editorial staff of Vanity Fair magazine and is hard at word on a short film.

Laser Love...

Moritz Waldemeyer is all about light-emiting diodes and light amplication by stimulated emission of radiation. What's all that nonsense? Oh right, LEDs and LASERs. And who can blame him? In the latest issue of "Presentation of the Day" (from PKN London Vol. 1), Waldemeyer demonstrates the various fashion, design, and performance-related uses he's devised for these glowing, electronic beauties. In his presentation you'll see luminous coffee-tables, shining stereos and shoewear, glimmering leather jackets worn by U2's Bono, even a crown adorned with red radiant beams!

Pancake Love

Flap-jacks, johnny cakes, crepes, hotcakes, or whatever your region calls them, we all love them. Really, who doesn't enjoy a good pancake every once in awhile? In this edition of Presentation of the Day (from PKN Des Moines, Vol. 12) Brian Sauer tells us of the origins of this saucer-shaped, flour-based meal. He also goes into detail on the emergence of delectable pancake toppings, the companionship between syrup and hotcakes, and the influence of race on marketing pancake-related products in the past.  So warm up the frying pan, cook up a few griddlecakes, drizzle on some syrup and butter, and check this one out.

PhoneBox Love

“They are not just a box or a kiosk, they are a brilliantly designed building.” In PhoneBox Love from PechaKucha Night Brighton Vol. 23, Philippa Stanton shared with us her love for the world-renowned symbol of Great Britain - telephone boxes. Her love grew to be a fantastic photo project overtime, which we also get a chance to observe in the video. Philippa is a synaesthetic artist, actress and an Instagram Starlet (she has 500k followers).
