Life Design Challenge

Syen Abu Bakar's current project involves a hundred logos and the population of Brunei. In an attempt to show the relationship between designer and company, and the influence design has in life, Syen has created a competition where one hundred logos will be compiled into a book called Brunei 100 Logo Design. With a few personal thoughts about what being a designer is, he quetsions the designer status in Brunei.

On the 9th June 2011 at the bargehouse, London, Duncan was invited to present in pechakucha style to an audience at an event organised by madeinbrunel.com. In this presentation Duncan recounts his early experiences as a fresh-faced graduate.

In What's in a Brane? at PechaKucha Night Beirut Vol. 26, Ayssar Arida and Sabine de Maussion introduce their latest project: Makerbrane, a physical and digital toolbox that lets anyone design, build, and sell their own line of cool toys. This educational toy allows anyone to mix their own LEGOs, littleBits electronics, Meccano, 3D prints and anything they can imagine into designs, objects and systems of their creation.

Jason Bruges Studio is internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, interventions and ground breaking artworks. They use a high-tech mixed-media palette to explore spectacle, time-based interventions and dynamic spatial experiences that connect people with their environment. Considered a pioneer of the hybrid in-between space between art, architecture and technology, Jason has subsequently paved the way for a new genre of design studios, artists and designer-makers. 

The team have recently finished working on a number of high-profile projects including an epic installation for Hull UK City of Culture, in which over 20 industrial robots performed choreographies with light. Earlier this year they revealed three immersive installations for the Life in the Dark exhibition at the Natural History Museum and some of their most celebrated pieces include a site-specific light installation based in the main nave of York Minster and an immersive artwork in Denmark that represents 12 million migratory birds and their unique habitat. 

In 2002 Jason set up his own practice and now works with a talented team of people to develop and deliver interactive projects worldwide. The studio comprises of an experienced team of architects, engineers, industrial designers and computational designers as well as specialists in electronics, programming and project management.

Bruce Macphail is the project manager for the American chapter of Clowns Without Borders, and in his presentation he discusses the CWB's mission to offer laughter and relieve suffering of all persons, especially children, who live in areas of crisis. Musical Mathematics: DIY Musical Criticism

"Being the only Asian in the Math Rock crowd has it's perks; the bands recognize you."In Musical Mathematics: DIY Musical Criticism from Bandar Seri Begawan, Vol. 3, Jay Johar shares the story of his love for Math Rock, a genre of experimental rock with rhythmically complex time signatures. He explains how writing about Math Rock landed him a place on the music blog Musical Mathematics in Leeds, UK, a site where musicians submit their never-before-heard music for review and exposure. Upon returning to Brunei, Johar attempted to bring back this passion for writing, and the idea of creating something big, new, and special to Brunei's creative scene. Don't worry. You can put your calculator away.
