Kym Verhovshek has partnered with Carolina Jews for Justice and other local social justice groups to bring the unique and profoundly motivational multi-media concert-drama, Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin to Asheville in June 2019. Music often reaches the heart and soul when words can not. The arts and humanities offer hope and inspiration, and this performance will be led by 8+ weeks of educational programming created for and coordinated with area schools, colleges, and the public. The goal is to create awareness by sharing past experiences, and through education and these conversations to participate in shaping the future.

Art With Other Species

"One of the themes that keeps drawing me back to this sorta work is that of technological augmentation. Some interspecies collaboration can begin suggest to us what it might be like to be technologically augmented humans by exploring what it might mean to be, for example, technologically augmented fish. In this piece, beta fish are giving the ability to move freely around a space on land, using these motorized pedestals that they can control. It gives them a new mode of interaction." In Art with Other Species from PechaKucha Night Asheville Vol. 9, Egg Syntax explores the artistic, scientific, and all-together fascinating intersection of a art crossbred with nature. He surveys examples, themes and implications of interspecies art from the simplest notions of using another species as a medium, to that of collaboration with another species. Prepare to have your mind blown.
