Reconnecting to the Universe

BY KINGA KIELCZYNSKA
@ VOL 16 ON DEC 15, 2009

Kinga Kielczynska disguises her sculptures, graphic and performance art as a talk about "a secret cult, that is trying to reconnect to the universe". Having lost the togetherness of man and nature, Kinga travels to energetic locations with other "cult members" to perform rites and exercises to be one with nature. The fact that they steal a lamp from the hotel lobby to channel the sun's energy seems natural. Sensual, profound and ... funny!

Force émotive et fictionnelle du portrait photographique

BY YVES DRILLET
@ VOL 13 ON MAY 24, 2017

Yves Drillet." I am a portrait photographer and this Pecha Kucha has for ambition to convince you that this style is an art by himself. It’s working on our feelings and telling us a story. By mixing my pictures and the ones that touched me from other photographers I tried to put together a list of qualities to appreciate portraits. And eventually the purpose could be to put back utopia into the act of looking."

Reframing Portrait Photography

BY TANYA MALOTT
@ VOL 23 ON MAR 16, 2018

Tanya Malott is a Sag Harbor based photographer, writer, and artist whose work has appeared worldwide in hundreds of media outlets including Oprah, Vogue, The New York Times, Town & Country and more. Yet the majority of her clients are generally very private people who shun media attention of any kind. Tanya studied architecture at Columbia University before switching her medium to photography as a more instantly gratifying way to create art that could last for generations. Her subject matter has roughly followed the arc of her life: she photographed young models as a fashion photographer, brides, and their families as a wedding photographer, young mothers as a family photographer, and most recently, bold and dynamic leaders and entrepreneurs seeking to make a difference in the world as a portrait photographer and photojournalist. She has always seen photography as a way of connecting with people anywhere, and sharing those connections with generations not yet born.
