Tokyo Graphic Recorder

How's this for a novel way of chronicling an event: Junko Shimizu goes to the event, and records what happened -- in quite a bit of detail -- through her drawings. Her "reports" can be found at Tokyo Graphic Recorder. (in Japanese)

A Sunday

@ VOL 133 ON FEB 24, 2016

“I’m a little late, so by the time I get there everyone's a little tired and all the food is gone. so I'm drinking by myself –this big can of asahi super dry– and I’m trying to talk to them.”

In A Sunday from PechaKucha Night Tokyo’s 133rd volume speaker and Illustrator Mariya Suzuki tells the story of an ordinary day in a fantastic life!. Sunday, February 7, 2016 was a typical day in her life that could be illustrated in 20 drawings– drawings that could be described as anything but typical! See Mariya put on her shoes, space out at a cafe, meet some people, and get drunk and sleepy towards the end of the night... all through the “lens” of her fantastic drawing style.

Celebrating Illustrators and Tokyo

@ VOL 138 ON JUL 27, 2016

"We were documenting Tokyo a lot, but even though we might draw Tokyo tower three times, because of our different background and where we come from, there will be three different outcomes which we thought was really interesting."

In Celebrating Illustrators and Tokyo from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 138, David Robert and Andrew Joyce share on The Tokyoiter project. The Tokyoiter is willing to present the talent of artists and the wonderful and inspiring city of Tokyo to a larger audience. Every cover of this imaginary magazine and tribute to The New Yorker and The Parisianner is a celebration of creativity and one of the best city on earth.

Art of Warning: Making of the Flood Drawings

@ VOL 8 ON SEP 13, 2016

"A few springs ago, I looked out over San Francisco Bay and I saw the city rising in the distance, above the fog, and I thought - I am going to draw water!"

In "Art of Warning: Making of the Flood Drawings" from PechaKucha Night Bryan Vol. 8, artist Mary Ciani presented “Flood”, her recent series – from drawings of living in harmony with first rivers to urgent ones warning of storm and final deluge. She looks, too, at visionary artists with images of the past, future, inventive assemblage, and spiritual connection. Even a prayer to the earth is included here. The drawings were collected into a book and art show.
