The Restoration of Heritage at the Arts Centre of Christchurch

PRESENTED ON MAY 04, 2015
IN CHRISTCHURCH @ VOL 23

The Arts Centre in Christchurch is a neo-gothic campus, once hosting the local university, converted into a space for local artists to practise and showcase. Severely damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes, it is now going through an extensive restoration. Arts Centre CEO Andre Lovatt gives people an insight into the restoration of the Arts Centre, to explain what it is that they have been doing since the earthquakes, show the process visually and give an indication on the progress that is being made. Showing the love, care and attention that so many people are giving to their restoration work and how, when it is all done, the Arts Centre, and the Christchurch wider community, will be so much better for it.

Icy Heritage

Lizzie Meek presents the Antarctic Heritage Trust which cares for a collection of simple, wooden expedition bases, filled with everyday objects. A life-changing experience for many of the people who visit them in Antarctica, they also strongly resonate with people who will never visit – because they are, despite the odds, still standing. Six minutes on the power of place, and the value of heritage in its original context.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on June 16, 2015.

Ice House on Main - Heritage Preservation in Support of Community Development

BY JOSE QUINTANA
@ VOL 10 ON FEB 28, 2017

Jose Quintana discusses AdventGX's heritage preservation model - a process that leverages a community centric mix of entrepreneurship, the arts, and science in support of the development of sustainable heritage preservation. The model is market demand driven along three sustainable development vectors: financial, social and environmental.

This conservative approach to community development uses behavioral and experimental economics to mitigate risks and lower barriers to entry when embarking on new heritage preservation initiatives, not only in underserved urban communities but also in rural settings where heritage based assets are particularly important contributors to quality of life improvements.
