Mandy Metrano is a certified art teacher and is the new teacher at the Monhegan School. She has started a new arts program for the Monhegan School called the Monhegan School Youth Arts Initiative, bringing professional artists in a variety of disciplines to the Monhegan School throughout the school year. Her presentation takes on her journey from student to traevling musician to her present roll at the Monhegan School.

The Cattywampus Puppet Council, which is a Knoxville based nonprofit seeking to build community and promote play for all ages through the puppetry arts. This spring, Cattywampus will organize and facilitate the Appalachian Puppet Pageant, Knoxville’s first community puppet parade. This project will invite members of the community of all ages and backgrounds to come together and create puppets, masks, and costumes rooted in local ecology and stories of “place.” As an act of public play and storytelling, this parade will celebrate the culture of love, creativity, and mutual dependence we wish to create in Southern Appalachia.

This was both the worst and best moment in his life: the worst, because he descended into depression for close on ten years; the best, because if he hadn’t gone that low, he wouldn’t know how to get this high and help others free their creativity.

Graphic novelist and teacher GMB Chomichuk, having worked as a freelancer, has frequently dealt with uncertainty. For him, he sees life as a path that we travel on, and to fight uncertainty we have to determine and bring our future to fruition by traversing these paths on foot. GMB explains what we can learn on our life-long treks and encourages us to keep walking in this motivational talk.
