The Machine in the Garden or the Garden in the Machine

PRESENTED ON AUG 16, 2018
IN KNOXVILLE @ VOL 28
Avigail Sachs has been fascinated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) dams for several years and has visited every dam at least once. She is currently writing a history of the architects and landscape architects who were part of this Authority. This presentation includes some of her efforts as a photographer and as an historian, highlighting one theme in particular: the ways in which the TVA system is a “machine in a garden”, but also a “garden in a machine."
