The Gap: On the State of the Graphic Design Industry

PRESENTED ON JUN 06, 2019
IN WINNIPEG @ VOL 38

Before joining the work force as full-fledged graphic designers, recent graduates of the Graphic Design program at Red River College Brent Fisher and Sky Dheere want to address the imbalances and inequalities that plague the industry today. In their 20x20 talk, Brent and Sky present the facts behind the design industry, its wage gap, and burnout culture in general, to encourage incoming and currently-employed designers to fight these problems head-on.

Brent and Sky's talk was recorded live at PechaKucha Night Winnipeg Vol. 38, on June 6 2019, at the Park Theatre.

It is no easy take to create art, to somehow materialize and express the thoughts in your head. Creating art expressing the thoughts in someone ELSE's head is something else entirely. Elma Giavases' early life and subsequent travels around the globe have given her a unique perspective on design and branding, and she now brings that expertise to the Kalispell community as a graphic designer with Highline Design.

After all, "great designs delight".
