@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

Ron Semel has a simple rationale for integrating process and design: if it doesn't break, you don't know what to fix. He starts off with the evolution of motocross, wanders through architectural design, and ends up at robotics. Even the design of his presentation seems to have a process to it!

Bound. Real People. Real Rope. Real Photography

BY GERRY PELSER
@ VOL 21 ON MAR 25, 2019

Gerry Pelser is a de-facto house-husband living in Johannesburg. He has one wife, two dogs, three bedrooms and a mortgage. When he is not busy looking after dogs or folding the sheets, he takes photos and writes books. He has a lighter side though: he likes to dabble in the art and psychology of BDSM, especially Japanese rope bondage, which is what his talk is about tonight. He is obsessed with photographic lighting and chicken wings, and if you buy him a beer, he will tell you anything you want to know.

BY NICOLE PREISSL
@ VOL 49 ON JUN 27, 2019

Nicole Preissl, an Indigenous designer from Vancouver takes us along her journey in discovering her relationship to the land and its stories. Nicole shares the culture and history of the First Peoples through interactive walks along the streets of False Creek. She uses rope-making with plant materials as a way to connect participants with the land around them and each other. In the end, these are not to be read as utilitarian tools, but tools for the transportation of stories.
