A poetic vision - the Sunshine Coast poetry trail
BY JUDITH BANDIDT
@ VOL 25
ON FEB 28, 2018
The Sunshine Coast Pente Poets (including Judith Bandidt, Deanne Lister and Lyn Browne) set off on a mission to bring poetry to the people by making it accessible within the local environment. The first year of their grassroots community project saw the poets investigate a variety of Sunshine Coast locations from 'hinterland to headland', exploring innovative ways of embedding poetry in natural, and built environments and writing about what they discovered. A cross-arts sculptural approach has since been used linking the visual arts with the literary arts through the creation of public art pieces with poetry as an intrinsic element.
The Hinterland Poetry Trail took shape during 2016 and 2017 at three sites. Inspiration for both poetry and sculptures was drawn from the history, heritage and unique environments of the three locations.
