Tangible Interfaces

Our interaction with technology these days primarily involves touch displays, keyboards, and mice. We spend hours manipulating these tools, and getting results/output via a glowing LCD screen. While interaction designer Carlos Velasquez believes computers aren't going anywhere, he has the unique thought that they will eventually serve their purpose as a tool that involves more tangible interaction and response.

Dimitris Grammenos and Xenophon Zabulis are principal researchers at the Institute of Computer Science and Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (ICS-FORTH) and key members of its Ambient Intelligence Programme. In cooperation with scientific and technical personnel of ICS-FORTH, they study, design, and develop new Ambient Intelligence technologies, applications, systems, and environments. They present some of the interaction technologies developed in the context of ICS-FORTH’s Ambient Intelligence Programme and related applications.

Coderdojo: La Palestra di Programmazione

Francesco Boano talks about CoderDojo is a global network of clubs that teach young people in areas specializing in computer programming and computer technology. There are now clubs in 22 countries, teaching 10,000 children to write computer code and programs each week.

Founded CoderDojo in 2011 as a not-for-profit organisation that teaches children how to code. It aims to teach them creative problem-solving skills and practical creative skills and was launched in Ireland in mid-2011. The first CoderDojo took place on 23 July 2011 in the National Software Centre in Cork.

The initiative arrived in Genoa this year, with the opening of the first “dojo” at Talent Garden Genova.

Within the presentation she shows to audience the impact of her graphic work in interior spaces, quoting also classics likes space invaders or pac man.
