The Streets Belong to Us
BY MATEUS BAGATINI
@ BRAZILIAN LIFESTYLE POWERED BY PECHAKUCHA
ON SEP 16, 2015
"We can take over the streets. We can have fun there because the city belongs to us."
In "The Streets Belong to Us" from Tokyo's Brazilian Lifestyle Powered by PechaKucha, content creator Mateus Bagatini shines the spotlight on Brazilian street party culture, but not the carnival kind with which we're all familiar! Exhausted and bored with the exclusive and over-priced club scene, a new generation of partiers have decided to take the club to the street, hosting DJs and dancers under bridges, in the parks, or even in once-abandoned commercial spaces, bringing with them more people, cheap booze, the authorisation of the city, and well ... what looks like a damn good time. Not just simply focussed on cutting loose, the parties have taken on numerous forms, often with a social message and have successfully demonstrated being an agent of change for the betterment of cities. As a citizen-driven culture, at parties in Brazil's public spaces everyone is invited ...after all the city belongs to us!
This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Friday, November 6th, 2015.
