The Roots of Innovation

BY LEZLEY DAVIDSON
@ VOL 3 ON JUN 06, 2014

Lezley Davidson speaks on the absolute necessity of the arts in our daily lives. She makes the argument that most science and mathematics would have never seen the light of day had inventive individuals not been creative thinkers to begin with. The roots of innovation therefore can be found in the creative arts.

"Presentation of the Day" on August 20, 2014.

Physics in Unexpected Places: An Improvised 20x20 Talk

BY CAITY CURTIS
@ VOL 36 ON NOV 22, 2018

PechaKucha Night Winnipeg challenged improviser Caity Curtis to perform an improvised 20x20 talk, with no prior knowledge of the slides that would project on stage. Before she started, Caity asked for a suggestion from the audience for a topic to frame her talk and chose the subject of "physics". Watch (and laugh) as Caity quickly tries to weave together a compelling talk about physics to the random selection of images put together by the PKN Winnipeg organizing team.

Caity's talk was recorded live at PechaKucha Night Winnipeg Vol. 36, on November 22 2018, at the Park Theatre.

For more information on PKN Winnipeg, follow us on Twitter (@pkn_winnipeg), Instagram (@pkn_winnipeg), or Facebook (www.facebook.com/pechakuchanightwinnipeg). PKN Winnipeg is presented by the Manitoba Chapter of the Graphic Designers of Canada.

Circus Mektub

BY AMITY STODDARD
@ VOL 25 ON JAN 09, 2019

Amity Stoddard joined her first circus crew fifteen years ago, searching for the stories of the extraordinary people who move the show down the road. In her time with Circus Smirkus, Big Apple Circus, and Cirque du Soleil, she has loaded-in, set-up, torn-down, pulled stakes, cooked meals, justified ledgers, tracked down props, secured visas, driven big trucks and finessed fine print.

Amity is currently working on a dual memoir with her husband, Sellam, a career circus artist and coach.  In 2015, Amity and Sellam formed The Sellam Circus School here in Biddeford.  In 2018, she launched CircuStories – a project dedicated to gathering, presenting, and archiving the stories of circus folks from around the world.
