In Petri Dish Typography from PechaKucha Night Tokyo’s 133rd volume, Jerusalem-based designer Ori Elisar’s presents on his award-winning Living Language project. Dealing with the evolution of the Hebrew language and letter, Ori uses scientific procedures and a live organism – the Paenibacillus vortex bacteria– as his medium. Ori will show us how biological fabrication technologies can interact with the design world.

Born and raised in Twatutia, where modern lifestyle and history collide, Ho graduated from the College of Fine Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, with double majors in Calligraphic Seal Carving and Modern Art. Since 2000, he has been creating artworks inspired by seal script writing as part of his experimental exhibition series, Writing Words, through observing the evolution of lines manifested by the body at different periods of time. In 2006, he established Timonium Lake. Using the lines and silhouettes of seal script calligraphy as his design methodology, he became a long-time collaborator with creators from different realms. He reinvigorates his design language by drawing upon the nutrients of folk culture and inspiration from the ever-changing trends of contemporary Asian and Taiwanese design.

It is no easy take to create art, to somehow materialize and express the thoughts in your head. Creating art expressing the thoughts in someone ELSE's head is something else entirely. Elma Giavases' early life and subsequent travels around the globe have given her a unique perspective on design and branding, and she now brings that expertise to the Kalispell community as a graphic designer with Highline Design.
