Human Rights Tattoo

The Human Rights Tattoo project is an art project to create awareness and underline the importance of Human Rights. The idea originates from Sander van Bussel. The murder of fellow artist Steven ‘Nyash’ Nygah in Nairobi motivated him to pursue this idea. HRT's goal is to tattoo the complete text of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on individuals, letter by letter. The complete text of this declaration contains 6773 letters. Each person gets one character.

I came to Geneva on 24th May 2009 to make a intervention at UNHRC special session on Sri Lanka for post war justice. That 3 minute speech changed my life, I was not able to go back home and became a refugee, Geneva became my second home.

The history of fashion is extensive and its implications on a society are enormous. In this presentation, we will be focusing not on the artistic and cultural aspect of fashion history, but on its ties to politics. We will be briefly analyzing gender and class through the lens of fashion history in attempt to answer one central question: What does fashion say about who we are in perspective to our society? Does it say anything at all?
