Lacquer is an ancient art that is the subject of Marie-Do Hyman-Boneu's presentation. She is a French artist who has been working with vegetal lacquer since 2001, when she travelled overland from Europe to Hanoi in Vietnam. What exactly is lacquer and how does she use it in her personal creative process? Marie Do shares her practice with us in ‘An artist's encounter with lacquer.’

A Cleaner, Greener Vientiane

Serge Doussantousse considers himself a French citizen of the world. In 2010 he started investigating local rubbish collections and causes of pollution by following the trucks that collected his household waste in Vientiane. Since then his project Green Vientiane has led several cleaning, greening and recycling-reusing initiatives across Vientiane.

In The Magic House from PechaKucha Night Vientiane Vol. 3, Mair Hyman talks about the process of designing and building a dream house for him and his artist wife in Vientiane, Laos in the neighborhood of Ban Apinihan. The result is a stunning house that combines both Lao and Western elements.

Becoming Lao´s Clay Animator

Souliya Phoumivong's presentation is about becoming the first Lao artist to make a stop motion animation, "The first animation that I made was a figure of myself with a buffalo – one boy and one buffalo. No studio. I used the city as the studio and placed them around the city". He is the director of Clay House Studio, dedicated to developing clay animation in Laos.

Under the name of ‘Kinnari Tea of Laos’ she is about to open a small shop-cum-tea house in downtown Vientiane. She talks about her journey in search of tea in Laos.
