Joel Jae Serrano is a high schooler who sees life a certain way, and wants you to know that you too can follow your passions no matter what age you are. Listen up because this student is going to take you to school in this light-hearted, funny, and endearing PechaKucha talk.

Flying high on life

Kathy Gruver is an award-winning author and the host of the national TV show based on her first book, The Alternative Medicine Cabinet (winner Beverly Hills Book Awards). She has earned her PhD in Natural Health and has authored two books on stress: Body/Mind Therapies for the Bodyworker and, Conquer Your Stress with Mind/Body Techniques (Winner Indie Excellence Awards, Beverly Hills Book Awards, Global E-book Awards, Irwin Awards, Finalist for the USA Best Books Award). Her latest book, Journey of Healing will be released this summer. She has studied mind/body medicine at the famed Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School and pursued further education at The National Institutes of Health. Gruver has been featured as an expert in numerous publications including Glamour, Fitness, Time, More, Women, Wall Street Journal, CNN, WebMD, Prevention, Huffington Post, Yahoo.com, Ladies Home Journal, Women, Massage and Bodywork magazine, and Massage Magazine. She has written dozens of health and wellness articles and contributing posts. Dr. Gruver has appeared as a guest expert on over 250 radio and TV shows including NPR, SkyNews London, Morning Blend in Las Vegas, CBS Radio, and Lifetime Television, and has done over 150 educational lectures around the country for everyone from nurses in the Middle East to 911 dispatchers in New Orleans, corporations around the US and teachers in her own backyard. AJ has been described as a graceful, adjusted identity culled from the rotting corpse of southern california junk culture. He also teaches media arts and social media at the MAD Academy at Santa Barbara High School. AJ is a giant nerd but he'll try not to dork up the vibe.

Charity, High School, and a Bus. Oh My!"

Maddie Bozik is the president of Maddie’s Mitten March, a charity she started in 2009, when she was ten years old. The goal of Maddie’s Mitten March is to collect, clean, and distribute winter clothing to those in need. Today, Maddie has a retrofitted (and repainted) school bus that goes around the community as part of her project to give winter clothing to anyone that needs it.

Brynn Cox is a current grade 12 student at Connect Ed, born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Brynn spent her childhood and teens competing and working in national level equine showjumping. Her love for the sport drove her to great achievements both as a horsewoman and athlete. She believes in encouraging young people to engage in their passions to succeed through the enjoyment of learning. Since moving to Penticton in April of 2016, she has found motivation to influence positive change in the community, especially advocating to support the needs of those who are most vulnerable.

Discovering Your Inner Light
