Shining a Light on My Fears

BY MATTHEW RENNELS
@ VOL 18 ON JUN 03, 2016

Matthew Rennels shares on facing some of the fears in his life. Rennels is a writer, author and blogger, who writes on topics of faith and fear. It all started for Matthew back in the early 2000s when he was in college and suddenly fell into a deep depression.  His world crashed and this landed Matt in years of darkness until he found escape through a new-found faith in God.

Matthew has a degree in journalism and worked as a reporter and editor for several newspapers, before entering the finance industry as a technical writer, where he’s worked for the past six years. He is also about to begin a creative writing Masters of Fine Arts program at Sierra Nevada College, which will keep him busy.

Matthew moved to Sioux Falls last August. He was previously living in Tampa, Florida, and though he misses the beaches and tropical weather, Tampa didn’t have the heart he has found in Sioux Falls. He is thrilled to be a part of this vibrant community.

#FunFactsWithFatimah

BY FATIMAH ABBASS
@ VOL 9 ON JUN 12, 2019

A fun fact about Fatimah Abbass (albeit one of many!) #funfacts - is that her first 5 birthdays were in different countries (4 different continents!)

Prior to coming to London for University, she spent the latter of her life in Toronto, and then Lahore, Pakistan. Upon graduating in 2016, she chose to stay on and embrace this city -- one that she is exceptionally enthusiastic about.

An avid volunteer, she volunteers with over 8 organizations across social causes with an interest in fundraising.

Fatimah values doing her part within the humanitarian sector, while recognizing the importance of celebrating creativity, and the vibrancy of spaces we live in.

She loves to support local, help bridge gaps and get people excited about getting involved and attending events in #ldnont.

A part time photographer, she also enjoys making people laugh, building capacity (challenging fears!), pondering the complexities of the human condition, dancing and creating opportunities for joy.
