CABN’s latest PechaKucha Night is taking place on Thursday 22 November, in collaboration with Borders Architecture Group (BAG). There will be inspiring presentations from architects, artists and  designers, as well as Glasgow School of Art architecture students who have been developing town plans for Galashiels as part of their course work. Presentation topics include the iconic Boilerhouse designed by Peter Wormsley, the architecture of James Bond and the Renaissance of Hutting in Scotland.  We will also hear from Hawick Flood Protection Scheme artist Andrew Mackenzie on designing elements to be incorporated into the scheme, and designer Zuzana Gibb who is developing a commission for the East Lothian Community Hospital.

From Dublin, Ireland. Stage 3 Architecture at Glasgow School of Art. Previously studied English Literature and French at Trinity College Dublin. Has worked at Scott Tallon Walker Architects, London and M.CO Projects, Dublin.

During her studies at Glasgow School of Art, Gaelen Britton was asked to design a masterplan for a new neighborhood in Galashiels.  Here, she talks us through her process.

Owen Brodie is interested in all things design, and is mainly oriented around architecture, however he is a keen photographer and has been shooting film photography for a while now.  Away from the busy architecture life he enjoys his free time by playing guitar in a band.

Huts: The Renaissance Of Hutting In Scotland

Setting up the Architects practice, Quercus Rural Building Design in 2002, in the Scottish Borders, Peter Caunt has become involved in building his own designs and those of others. With themes of energy efficiency and use of natural and locally sourced materials.  He has worked in many techniques including  timber frame, oak post and beam, ICF, SIPS, hemp lime and straw bale.  Mostly for domestic construction projects extending into hut designs for the movement that is reviving hut culture in Scotland.
